Photo Guidelines — Annyeong
Last updated: 12 September 2026
Your profile photo is how other ARMY recognise you — at a meetup, at a concert, or in a chat. Annyeong is built for real people meeting real people, so every profile photo is reviewed by our team before it becomes visible to others.
These Guidelines explain what we approve, what we reject, and why. They are part of our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
Annyeong is an independent, fan-made project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to HYBE Corporation, BIGHIT MUSIC, or BTS.
1. What a good profile photo looks like
- It’s you. The photo shows the actual person using the account — the person other members will meet.
- Your face is clearly visible. Good light, in focus, and clearly recognisable. Your face must not be substantially obscured by sunglasses, masks, hands, hair, heavy shadows, or other elements.
- You alone. One person in the photo. Group photos, couple photos, and photos with friends are rejected, even if you are in them — other members need to be able to clearly identify you.
- Recent. Use a photo that reflects how you look today, not one from years ago.
- A real photograph. Your profile photo must be a real photograph of you. Illustrated, cartoon-style, anime-style, AI-generated, or other artificial versions of you are not accepted.
- Yours. Use a photo you took or have the right to use, showing you.
Fan content is welcome on your profile in other ways — in your bio, your bias, and your ARMY story. Your profile photo is for showing you.
2. What we reject
We reject profile photos that:
- do not show you — landscapes, pets, cars, objects, fictional characters, memes, screenshots, album covers, or logos;
- show BTS members or any other celebrity or public figure, alone or edited into a photo with you;
- show more than one person, or where we cannot clearly tell which person is the account holder;
- make you difficult to recognise — for example, when sunglasses, masks, heavy shadows, extreme angles, hands, hair, or other elements substantially obscure your face, or when the photo is taken from too far away;
- are AI-generated, illustrated, cartoon-style, anime-style, face-swapped, or heavily edited versions of you. Your profile photo must be a real photograph of you;
- are heavily filtered or edited in a way that significantly changes your appearance or makes it difficult to confirm that the photo shows you;
- contain nudity, underwear, swimwear-focused, or sexually suggestive content, or are posed primarily to draw attention to your body rather than your face;
- show children, including family members, or anyone who appears to be under 18;
- contain text, watermarks, QR codes, phone numbers, usernames, social handles, links, or advertising;
- are illegal, violent, hateful, or shocking, or show weapons, drugs, or gore;
- infringe someone else’s rights — including professional photos you do not have permission to use, photos taken from someone else’s account, or photos of other people posted without their consent;
- are of very low quality — blurry, pixelated, too dark, heavily cropped, or too small for your face to be clearly seen.
3. Verification selfie
When you submit a profile photo, we ask you to take a verification selfie using your device camera.
Our team compares the selfie with your profile photo to confirm that the profile photo shows you.
The selfie is never shown to other members and never appears on your profile. It is reviewed by a person — we do not use facial recognition.
Details about how we handle your selfie are available in our Privacy Policy.
4. What happens when a photo is rejected
- You will see that your photo was not approved and can submit a new one straight away. A photo rejection by itself is not a penalty.
- Until you have an approved profile photo, you cannot appear in Discover or send a Hello (안녕), but you can still use the rest of your account where available.
- Repeatedly submitting photos that are not of you, photos of other people, or other prohibited content may violate our Community Guidelines and may lead to restrictions on your account or its removal.
- Photos involving minors, nudity, or illegal content are handled under our Child Safety Standards and Community Guidelines, and may be reported to the relevant authorities where required by law.
- Photos approved before these Guidelines were updated are not treated as violations solely because the requirements have changed. If an existing profile photo no longer meets the current requirements, Annyeong may ask you to upload a new photo. This does not by itself count as a Community Guidelines violation.
- If you change your profile photo, the new photo will be reviewed under the Guidelines that apply at the time you submit it.
5. Photos in chat
Images shared in chats must also comply with our Community Guidelines.
Do not send:
- nudity or sexual content;
- sexual content involving minors or any other exploitative content;
- illegal, violent, hateful, or threatening content;
- images used to harass, intimidate, scam, or deceive another person;
- images of another person shared without permission where doing so violates their privacy or rights.
Images you send in a 1:1 conversation are visible to the person you send them to, and that person can report them to Annyeong.
6. If you see a photo that breaks these rules
You can report a profile from within the app.
Reports are handled confidentially and reviewed by our team. If you believe a photo shows a child, impersonates another person, contains sexual or exploitative material, or otherwise presents a safety concern, please report it immediately.
